ON MY WAY TO MEET KISS (by Andrea Balsamo)

KISS concert in Milan, Italy, 18 May 2010

After an almost endless wait, finally on the morning of May 18 we are taking off from Cagliari towards Bergamo Orio al Serio .... we are eight, all strictly and rigorously from Cagliari, all strictly and rigorously wearing KISS Tshirts and with a Sonic Boom cover ready to be signed, you never know! The wait has made us loaded and although we all know what the setlist of the evening will be the excitement is high, we saw more or less 4 KISS gigs each, but every time you feel different emotions, so difficult to explain and understand, but KISS is always somehow magical.

The three of us, Marco, Franz and myself are in mission to meet, even by far, our heroes, at least once in our life. We head off to the Principe di Savoia  Hotel but no way, KISS are not there, although  Milan Football Team player, Pato being there made us hope.
Someone suggests us they are probably at the Four Seasons Hotel, let’s try! When we get near destination, we see some guys running to the hotel... Bingo!!!!!
After a while we come across Doc McGhee, he’s very friendly and kind, I'll take pictures with him. At about 16:30 the hotel doors open: Here they are! Gene and Eric quickly get in a van with darkened windows, followed by Paul, Tommy Doc in another one... Just time to wave hands and they disappear. The wonder and joy, however, have a bitter aftertaste, the hotel security staff attack us verbally and takes us away by force without any reason ... incredible! We hoped to chat a bit and shake hands ... We too then head off to the venue, and after greeting some web friends we are inside the building, the atmosphere is incredible, adrenaline to the top.... we buy the Sonic Boom Over Europe Tourbook, a cup, the gig posters and ... TAKING DAWN hit the stage. They remember me in a way Motley Crue, great pathos, they know how to rock, and they get the crowd on them, it’s quite a success given the fact all the house is here for KISS only! Lights goes down, video intro and .... YOU WANTED THE BEST .... YOU GOT THE BEST!  'Pure magic, we jump, scream, sing ...... I’m  43 I still cry with excitement!! Best concert ever, maybe emotionally comparable with the 1996 Reunion gig (still in Milan), certainly better than 1999. We all agree, current KISS is an unmatched show and a huge entertainment event... we can talk about Paul’s voice, they are almost 60 years etc..etc.. but who cares, I wanted this concert from KISS and they delivered! No regrets, this is KISS now, take it or leave it, and we are so happy to take it! The next day ... still on our way to meet the Fantastic 4 ... luckily enough we get to meet Tommy and his wife in Piazza Duomo. Tommy is so spontaneous and nice to pose for a photo with us and he go farther asking his wife to shoot at us.... we did it! And we even wind up with an autograph! We turn around we realize Eric’s there too, he apparently seems a bit shy, then he turns to us, and... autograph and picture with him! Mission accomplished then! Looking back a these two days I smile I still feel a child in my 40, we are eternal Peter Pan, but so happy. I wish our children to feel our healthy emotions, maybe not for KISS, but hoping that the new generations may find bands able to give emotions, involvement and the enthusiasm we got from Them, but deep in my heart I know  they are and will remain unique...

Cronistoria del concerto di Milano, 18 May 2010 e dintorni

Dopo un’attesa che sembra infinita, finalmente la mattina del 18 Maggio siamo in fase di decollo da Cagliari, direzione Bergamo Orio al Serio....siamo in otto, tutti rigorosamente cagliaritani e tutti rigorosamente con addosso le mitiche magliette con logo KISS e copertina di Sonic Boom da far autografare, non si sa mai! L'attesa ci ha reso carichi e nonostante tutti noi sappiamo quale sarà la setlist della serata l'emozione e' alta, abbiamo già visto più o meno 4 concerti dei KISS a testa, ma quello che si prova ogni volta e' diverso; difficile da spiegare e da capire, ma i KISS riescono sempre a trasmettere un non so ché di magico.
La mia missione è di incontrare, anche se da lontano i nostri beniamini, almeno una volta nella mia vita. Siamo in tre, io Marco e Franz, e ci dirigiamo verso L'Hotel Pricipe di Savoia; dei KISS nemmeno l'ombra, nonostante la presenza del giocatore del Milan Pato ci abbia fatto sperare. Qualcuno ci suggerisce che probabilmente i NOSTRI siano al Four Seasons Hotel, proviamo! Quando siamo giunti quasi a destinazione, vediamo alcuni ragazzi correre verso L'Hotel...Bingo!!!!!
Dopo poco ci imbattiamo in Doc McGhee, e' molto gentile e disponibile, mi faccio fotografare con lui. Verso le 16.30 le porte dell’albergo si aprono: Eccoli!! Gene ed Eric salgono velocemente insieme in un Van con i vetri oscurati, seguiti da Paul, Tommy e Doc su un altro...
Giusto il tempo di un saluto con la mano e spariscono. Lo stupore e la gioia hanno però un retrogusto amaro, il personale della security dell'hotel ci aggredisce verbalmente e ci allontana a forza senza alcun motivo…incredibile! Speravamo in due parole ed una stratta di mano…Ci mettiamo anche noi in marcia verso il Forum, e dopo aver salutato qualche conoscenza da web ci troviamo dentro il palazzetto, l’atmosfera è incredibile, adrenalina a mille.......acquistiamo subito il Tour book del Sonic Boom Over Europe Tour, una tazza, i poster della locandina e....ecco le prime note dei TAKING DAWN. Mi ricordano in alcuni fraseggi i Motley Crue, grande phatos, stanno bene sul palco, riescono a coinvolgere il pubblico ed è già  tanto, qui sono tutti e solo per i KISS!!
Si spengono le luci, breve video di introduzione e ....YOU WANTED THE BEST....YOU GOT THE BEST! E' magia allo stato puro, saltiamo, urliamo, cantiamo......a 43 anni piango ancora dall'emozione!!!! Questo per me è stato il mio miglior concerto dei KISS che abbia mai visto, forse paragonabile per emozione a quello della Reunion del 1996, sempre a Milano, senz'altro meglio del 1999. Siamo tutti d'accordo, i KISS attuali non hanno rivali nello Show e nell'intrattenimento...certo la voce di Paul, i 60 anni etc. etc. ma chi se ne frega, io volevo questo concerto dai KISS e loro l'hanno esaudito, il resto non conta: ci siamo divertiti e non abbiamo nessun rimpianto, i KISS ora sono questi prendere o lasciare, noi felici di prendere!!!
Il giorno dopo…la nostra ricerca dei fantastici 4 continua… In Piazza Duomo incontriamo Tommy e sua moglie, gentilissimi. Tommy è cosi spontaneo che non si fa pregare per la foto di rito e anzi invita sua moglie ad inquadrare e click....ci siamo riusciti!! E con autografo annesso! Ci giriamo e ci accorgiamo che c’è anche Eric, all'apparenza sembra un po' schivo, poi si gira, ci avviciniamo e...foto con lui ed autografo!! Missione compiuta quindi! Ripercorrendo i fatti fa sorridere sentirsi ancora adolescenti a 40 anni suonati, siamo degli eterni Peter Pan, ma strasoddisfatti . Auguro ai nostri figli di provare le nostre sane emozioni, magari non per i KISS, ma sperando che anche le nuove generazioni possano trovare dei gruppi musicali capaci di trasmettere emozioni, coinvolgimento, entusiasmo come ne abbiamo ricevuti noi, in cuor mio però so che Loro sono e resteranno unici…
